Tales from Soviet Britain

A quarter of adults to face 'anti-paedophile' tests
The launch of a new Government agency will see 11.3million people vetted for any criminal past before they are approved to have contact with children aged under 16.

Women workers to get 'positive discrimination' rights
Companies will be encouraged to positively discriminate in favour of women job candidates.

Firms will also be forced to publish details of how much men and women are paid, Harriet Harman, the Equality Minister, has disclosed.

School note for parents who give children unhealthy pack lunches
Parents cleaning out their child's lunchbox at the end of the school day could be in for a nasty surprise — a scolding note from teacher alongside the half-eaten sandwiches and empty crisp packets.

The School Food Trust wants teachers to send out warning letters to parents who fail to comply with school healthy-eating policies. And in advice that could be seen as patronising, the government-funded body suggests further that they send congratulatory letters to those who pack healthy lunches for their children.

I WILL NEVER EVER FORGIVE THOSE OF VOTING AGE WHO LET THESE SCUM INTO POWER.
ANYONE WHO VOTED LABOUR SHOULD HANG THEIR HEADS IN SHAME.

Global Whining

I have to agree with this comment left by Pagar in response to this post by The Devils Kitchen.

My attitude is as follows.

If you want to cycle to work, switch your TV off after use and pay to have your carbon footprint erased that's fine.

If you want to tell me what car I can drive, where I can drive it and how many times a year I am allowed to fly in a plane, my instincts are to ask you politely not to interfere in my life.

If you ask me to pay you handsomely to create and enforce the legislation you want to enact to restrict my freedom, my instincts are to invite you to go fuck yourself.

Quite.

The Hegelian Principle

I stumbled across this article by Ray Thomas where he explains the Hegelian Principle.

I've written before about the "Hegelian Principle," which the power seekers have been using with amazing success for a lot longer than I can remember to create support for their power grabs. It's a simple principle. It has only three steps:

* Step one: CREATE A "PROBLEM": Create it or take one that does exist and build it up out of all proportion to its real importance;

* Step Two: PUBLICIZE THE "PROBLEM": Make sure a story about this problem appears in the news media each and every day, in newspapers, news magazines, radio, and television. Hit it again and again in a "steady drumbeat" that soon has people who don't pay real attention to politics (which is the majority of them) clamoring for a "solution" to the problem;

* Step Three: OFFER A "SOLUTION": A solution that takes away one or more of our rights and further undermines the constitutional protections we all are supposed to enjoy. One that involves higher taxes (to pay for this "solution," of course), and one we would not have allowed them to do without this previous conditioning of the public.
